For the past few years I’ve had the pleasure of parking at the Speedway Garage (SWG) on the UT campus. I worked on Continuing and Innovative Education’s IT team, which offices in 2617 Speedway, just across the street from the Speedway Garage.
But in December of 2012 I left CIE and began working for Information Technology Services (ITS), which is housed in the Flawn Academic Center. The closest parking garage to FAC is the San Antonio Garage located, shockingly, on San Antonio Street just north of 24th Street.
The San Antonio Garage (SAG) is technically more convenient to my current workplace. It’s three blocks away, as opposed to about a 20-minute hike across campus. But the hidden evil of SAG is that same, convenient location.

At 5pm, campus traffic approaches gridlock. So when you pull out of SAG between 4:30-6:00pm, you exit into traffic. Compare this to SWG, where when you exit at any time of day you are greeted by open streets, flowing beautifully to the major thoroughfares of your choosing.
Suffice it to say, I’m going to put in my request to move back to SWG. I miss getting to leave work and, well, actually getting to leave work.
